What should I watch on shrooms?

Do you prefer to spend your shroom trips safely indoors? Are you planning to trip in the winter, when spending multiple hours walking around or sitting in a park is not an option? If you said yes to either of those questions, then this article may help provide some entertainment for your next shroom trip!

With endless options for your viewing pleasure available, it can be difficult to decide what to watch. There are many genres and moods to choose from, and the vibe of your trip can be greatly influenced by the movie or TV show you select. We’ve included a few options below that you should check out!

What TV shows are the best to watch on shrooms?

  • Is it cake?

Is it Cake? is a Netflix original TV show that is based on the premise that ordinary, everyday objects can be perfectly replicated using cake. The show is a competition, with contestants creating different replicas of everyday items out of cake and trying to fool two judges. If the judges don’t choose the item that is cake, then the contestant moves forward to the next round! To be honest, the show is crazy and visually interesting even when you’re not tripping, so it could be a good choice for someone who wants to have an extremely light-hearted, straightforward TV show to watch for their trip.

  • Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective agency

Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency is a wild ride of twists and turns and the fantastical interconnectedness of the universe. The show follows Dirk Gently, a detective who investigates supernatural mysteries. There are intriguing characters, intricate plot lines, and amazing visual effects. This show would be perfect for someone who wants to have a more cerebral shroom trip, as the show definitely keeps you on your toes!

  • Avatar: The Last Airbender

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a classic Nickelodeon cartoon about a young boy who is able to control all four elements (air, water, earth, and fire) and acts as the world’s connection to the spirit world. There are some episodes you should absolutely avoid if you’re tripping on shrooms, but, in general, there are so many beautiful elements to the show and story that it’s easy to get invested in. It has a surprisingly adult plot for a supposedly children’s TV show, and would be perfect if you’re in the mood to get really emotionally invested in something.

What movies could I watch on mushrooms?

  • Anything by Studio Ghibli (except Grave of the Fireflies)

Studio Ghibli movies like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, or My Neighbour Totoro all have beautiful sweeping landscapes that you don’t often see in animated movies. There are spectacular and visually stunning scenes, along with wonderfully crafted and heartfelt stories. There are moments in each of the suggested movies here that are a little scary, but each of these movies also has a guaranteed happy ending. But out of all the Studio Ghibli movies, make sure you avoid Grave of the Fireflies if you’re trying to have a good trip. It is a devastating emotional journey into the death of two children – and definitely NOT recommended for shroom viewing!

  • The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

A surreal journey into the mind of a worker who wants to expand his world outside his office cubicle. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty promises to inspire, and has a Wes-Anderson-esque aesthetic that results in beautifully confusing shots when combined with the rampant surrealism. It is truly breathtaking at moments, and if you’re tripping, the natural landscapes will look even more appealing!

What are the best documentaries to watch while tripping shrooms?

If you’re looking for something trippy to watch while you’re shrooming, you really can’t go wrong with any nature or space documentary. BBC’s Planet Earth or the Blue Planet are our personal recommendations, but anything you’re interested in can work!

In particular, the Deep Sea episode of BBC’s Planet Earth is incredibly psychedelic before even taking shrooms. When you watch it on shrooms, it looks nearly animated. The benefit of documentaries is that there is little to no plot, so you never have to focus on the story and can allow your brain to wander!

Should I watch something scary while tripping?

If you have a lot of experience with scary movies and a lot of experience with shrooms, then by all means, mix those two interests! However, most people find that shrooms already induce pretty intense feelings, and adding the intensity of a scary movie to your trip might be more than you want to deal with.

The best thing to do if you want to watch a scary movie but you aren’t sure about it while you’re tripping is to try it for a short period of time. You can always turn it off if it becomes too intense! If you have to turn off a scary movie because it has intensified your shroom trip in an unpleasant way, then make sure you put on something nice and lighthearted to help yourself transition into a more comfortable headspace.
